VENUE MANAGEMENT STAFF ARE READY TO SAVE LIVES

Image of Venue Management staffVenue Management look after the events that take place within the Town Hall Ballroom. We held 415 events in the Ballroom  in the financial year 2008  -  09  with 73,686 visitors  attending.   We are always on hand to provide First Aid assistance when necessary and the team below have also recently passed their defibrillator training  provided by North West Ambulance Service.

A defibrillator is a machine used to shock the victim's heart and restore the heart's normal rythmic patterns. When a defibrillator is used, it in effect kicks the heart into action again, causing it to resume sending blood throughout the body. (May 2009)

FERRARIS AND FRILLS!

A couple from Woodley tied the knot at the town’s famous ‘Wedding Cake’ building on 19 July where they were treated like ‘royalty’. The Bride sped up to Stockport Town Hall in a Ferrari to marry the Groom. After the emotional vows, the couple enjoyed their reception with family and friends in the Town Hall’s impressive ballroom.

Father of the bride said: “It was a perfect day, Debi looked absolutely stunning.”
The Town Hall staff treated it as the wedding of the year. The couple were treated as royalty with champagne reception and the finest food and wine. It was a truly memorable occasion with every detail expertly completed.”

TOWN HALL PIANO RESTORED TO FULL FITNESS

Stockport Town Hall has recently completed an extensive renovation project on the Steinway piano. The impressive Steinway piano is a major asset for the Town Hall, which plays host to numerous high profile concerts and performances throughout the year. It took three months of repair work to restore the piano, which returned to the Ballroom in November 2007. The cost of the repair work was £6,000, which was funded by Arts Council of EnglandA photo of the piano

Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Leisure, said: “The Town Hall is very proud to support local musicians and groups within the region by providing a top class Hospitality Assured venue for concerts and performances, which will only be enhanced by theimprovements to the piano.

“Each year a variety of concerts are held within the Town Hall Ballroom, from local schools and college events, through to the highly successful Stockport Symphony Orchestra.”

STOCKPORT TOWN HALL GRADE II* LISTED BUILDING

English Heritage has classed Stockport Town Hall as a Grade II* listed building. Only 4% of all listed buildings are Grade II*. To achieve this status the building must be considered a structure of more than special interest. The grading covers the entire building including fixtures and fittings and interior alterations can not be made without consent from English Heritage. This status is not intended to fossilise the building but instead ensure that the architectural and historic interest of the building is carefully considered before any alterations, either outside or inside, are agreed. If you come and visit the Town Hall you will see how the original features have been preserved. In the Ballroom the only thing that has really changed in 100 years is that the lights are now electric opposed to gas.

RECORD AUGUST

August 2007 saw a record number of multi cultural weddings. The ten events in August attracted 3930 visitors to the Town Hall. This is compared to a total of 23 multi cultural weddings in the financial year 2006-2007.
