Civil Partnerships at Stockport Town Hall

Stockport Town Hall has a long history of hosting civil wedding ceremonies, receptions and other celebrations and is proud to introduce a new civil partnership package.

From December 2005, same sex couples have been able to register their partnership under the Civil Partnership Act 2004.

Celebrating a civil partnership will be one of the most important days of your life, whether you choose to have a simple or more elaborate occasion.

We will help you to ensure that your celebration is well planned from beginning to end, allowing you and all your guests to enjoy a special and memorable day.

Stockport Town Hall is a Grade II* listed building, providing an exceptional backdrop for your special day with unique opportunities for photographs.

The Partnership Ceremony
The Town Hall has a choice of 3 licensed rooms for ceremonies, which includes the Marble Staircase, Council Chamber and Committee Suite. These ornate rooms are suitable for parties of all sizes and each offers a superb backdrop for your ceremony and an excellent location for memorable photographs. The Town Hall is also able to offer a Principals waiting room, whilst your guests enter the building through a Renaissance styled entrance hall.
Room hire - £375.00

Ceremony & Drinks Reception
Choose to have your ceremony in one of the Town Hall's ornate rooms followed by a drinks reception on the marble staircase. Optional canapés can also be served.
Room hire - £375.00. Refreshments priced on request.

Ceremony & Partnership Breakfast
Enjoy a complete package at Stockport Town Hall including the ceremony in one of the ornate licensed rooms, drinks reception, partnership breakfast and evening buffet. Large parties can be catered for in the magnificent ballroom available with a late bar until 1am .*
Friday Package - £4510, inclusive of 70 guests (additional guests can be catered for)
Complete Package - £5975 inclusive of 70 guests (additional guests can be catered for).

Please note all prices are subject to increase on 1 April each year.

THE CIVIL PARTNERSHIP ACT

The Civil Partnership Act allows same sex couples, male and female, to register their relationship with a Civil Partnership Registrar appointed by the local authority, making a formal, legal commitment to each other by forming a civil partnership.

Provisions in the Act include:

Employment and pension benefits

  • Access to fatal accidents compensation
  • Recognition for immigration and nationality purposes
  • A duty to provide reasonable maintenance for your civil partner and any children of the family
  • Civil partners to be assessed in the same way as a spouse for child support
  • Equitable treatment for the purpose of life assurance.
  • Legally recognised overseas relationships treated as civil partners in the UK .
  • Certain rules to apply, if one party dies without having made a valid will.

The process of entering into a civil partnership will be administered by the local Registration Service.

If necessary, there will be a formal court-based process for the dissolution of a civil partnership.
